Ideally your boiler should be regularly serviced to make sure it is working correctly, this will help to save you money on your energy bills as well as ensure your boiler is running safely. A faulty boiler will be less energy efficient and might even start leaking poisonous carbon monoxide. This gas is colourless and odorless, so it is hard to tell if one of your appliances has started leaking carbon monoxide. When you have your boiler serviced, it should be done by a Gas Safe or OFTEC Registered engineer once a year.
- The boiler will be fully inspected to check is working correctly
- Controls will be checked to make sure they’re functioning properly.
- The boiler will be checked for corrosion and leaks.
- The casing of your boiler will be removed to inspect the main components, and parts cleaned as required and seals checked before replacing the casing
- The gas pressure will be checked.
- The flue will be tested to make sure it’s not emitting any unsafe fumes.
Heating System Upgrades
Upgrading your heating system can see like a daunting prospect, but with some careful planning and good advice, it should result in a system that delivers all that you require in terms of heating and hot water making use of the latest fuel efficient boiler, fuels, radiators and more.
Inevitably cost is going to be the first thing on your mind. Much will be determined by a number of key areas including size of property, number of rooms, boiler type, fuel choice, flues, radiators, cylinders and much more. Every installation is different and it is important to obtain as much information about the cost and timescale for getting a heating system upgraded.
We would be happy to assess your requirements and provide you with an estimate for your upgrade. Contact me today to make an appointment.
Keeping your boiler well maintained is essential for the smooth running of any heating system. Periodically your boiler should have a maintenance check to make sure you are getting the best out of it.
Each boiler type will come complete with an owner’s manual that contains specific information about the desired readout of each gauge and other information pertaining to the basics of boiler maintenance. Whether you have an oil or gas appliance it is important to be sure that your domestic boiler is maintained and held to a clean, safe standard.
By carrying out regular maintenance checks you can hopefully avoid costly call outs or unexpected breakdowns. For more information contact me today.
Keeping control of your energy bills can seem like a challenge. However, there are plenty of ways you can make even your existing system more energy efficient without going to the expense of a complete refit or system upgrade.
It is quick and easy to add thermostatic control to radiators or to have more technologically advanced room theromostats which will help you manage temperature more efficiently. These simple cost effective controls can make a massive saving on your energy bill.
TRVs (thermostatic radiator valve) are a self-regulating valve fitted to hot water heating system radiators, to control the temperature of a room by changing the flow of hot water to the radiator and these are seen as a vital component of creating efficiency. A boiler is the heart of a home’s central heating system, supplying heat to the radiators and hot water to the taps. And unless you're upgrading your boiler before a problem occurs, it's likely you'll be replacing an existing one because it's not functioning correctly.
Every home is different, and every requirement for heating and hot water is different. It is important to get proper advice from a qualified, Gas Safe or OFTEC Registered engineer. Chris will visit your property and assess your requirements. After which a detailed breakdown of the cost for replacement boiler and parts will be provided, along with estimated costs for time and labour.

Fault Finding & Repairs
Most central heating problems tend to be seasonal, especially in the autumn when after a period of inactivity and as the weather turns cooler the system is woken up as we are prompted to turn on our heating. In theory you you should have had your heating on at regular intervals during the summer to ensure the system continues to work efficiently. However, in realtiy its not until the cooler weather arrives that we re-ignite the heating.
If after doing some of the basic checks such as bleeding radiators, checking thermostats or ensuring pilot light is functioning correctly, you find your heating system still isn't working properly or if there are undiagnosed noises or knocking sounds, its probably worth getting a suitably qualified engineer to review your system and make sure things aren't going seriously wrong. Call Chris on 07989 321033 or email and he will be able to arrange an appointment to come and troubleshoot your system
